Thought everybody might like to see a portrait I made using my relatively new Z6 with the new 85/1.8S. Used Aperture Mode, AUTO ISO, 1/60th, F1.8, ISO 200. Used a refurbished SB-500 which I bought from B&H for $150 to provide some fill. Taken last night at 6:50 PM, East coast.

fabulous long tousled auburn loose curl tresses... intriguing nail decor... charming couple...

What could be done to improve? Content aware fill to eliminate the bright area in upper camera left corner... which can distract a viewer's attention... a 30 second fix...

Yes it is obvious the Z6 was designed with wedding shooters in mind, albeit not so much action sports pros... There are quite a few wedding shooters who have been early adopters of this platform and rave of it's performance in this genre...

Or, perhaps I could have just turned the camera a bit right or cropped that feature out as well. This was a quickie shot of my grandson and his girlfriend taken just before the Homecoming dance. It was shot on a walking path that was once a set of train tracks, and I wanted to get the train signal in the photo, left side, rear, under the white blob, to see how the lens rendered it. Had I had more time (teen age subjects have a notoriously short attention span), I would have liked to get closer to the old train signal to render more of it. But, alas, we were a bit behind waiting for that little lady to 'get ready' for the affair. Thanks for your comments. Useful as usual. Perhaps I'll get the chance to play a bit later and utilize your thoughts and re-post. Best of luck.

Chris the "Rails to Trails" movement has been a wonderful success in so many districts for decades now... I worked for the Washington County Planning Commission back in the late seventies when this movement was first launched... What a brilliant masterstroke of planning agencies across the country... I live next door to the W&OD trail which is 50 miles of emerald green foliage... You are so wise to choose this venue!

Please keep in mind that a "Homecoming Dance" is a MAJOR rite of passage for young ladies... and a precursor for their wedding event... It isn't just important, it is everything! Many of these young ladies have their hair professionally styled for said event (my kid's mom did)... You are extremely lucky to have beautifully styled hair on this photo shoot... and those nails were epic! You are a tad remiss for not doing close-ups of her face with those beautiful nails in the frame... That gel tip nail decor is to die for! Didn't you notice how she is showcasing her nails? And awesome eye drama with those fabulous curly band lashes... she was likely batting her eyes at everyone that night... lol

btw, if you plan on migrating into commercial wedding photography might be prepared to work at warp speed... Wedding shooters are the true heroes in photography... Outside of combat photojournalism there are precious few genre that place such extreme demands on a shooter...

Again, precious serendipity latent within... your son must be so very proud of his lady....

Nice edit... btw you can actually control the of opacity of the content aware fill with an option under the Edit Menu in Photoshop called (fade fill) I use this extensively since it allows one to subtlety adjust only the fill amount quickly on the fly...

Yep weddings are a serious challenge... I only do "second shooter" gigs now...
