For those who've followed and patiently awaited the resolution to my problem, I did get the D500 into the shop today. A firmware update was done but I was told the camera being new already had the latest updates. I hope I explained that correctly. Nevertheless the camera is working fine now.
He also felt like I was probably not giving the camera ample time to finish recording the burst of shots I had taken, which is very possible.
I love the D500 and feel like I'm getting great quality photos.
