Sony a6500 vs. 6000: Is autofocus of "adapted" third-party lenses appreciably faster with the a6500?
I am thinking of upgrading my venerable Sony a6000 to the a6500 (or even possibly the a6600 when it becomes available). One of the goals would be to obtain faster autofocus of "adapted" third-party lenses (primarily Canon ef/efs lenses). I tend to think that the later models, with their greatly increased number of focus points, would/should focus faster, but nothing that I have read seems to directly address this issue. Unless the a6500 is appreciably faster--much more than a few milli-seconds or so--I would be much less interested in making a change. I would appreciate your thoughts, and especially the experiences of any who have worked with both models using third-party lenses.
Best regards,

I don't have empirical data but you are probably aware that the 6500 has phase detect focusing and the a6000 has only contrast. The addition of phase detect to the RX10 line made a lot of difference in focus speed and accuracy. It's not unreasonable, then, to expect the same from the a6000 to a6500 jump.
When considering the issue of 3rd party lenses and adapters there are a lot of additional variables and it could well depend on the individual case. But if you can afford it, the a6500 has superior focusing method(s) AND internal stabilization for legacy/3rd party lenses.
I have used legacy, 3rd party and old Minolta lenses with my a6500 and I do find it much better than my a6000 was. I just can't give you any numbers or detail on that.
Thank you, a6k. That info was very helpful.

Sorry but that's incorrect. The A6000 has 25 contrast detection and 179 phase detection points, and has a mfg rated focus speed of .06 seconds.
The A6500 has 425-point phase-detect AF, 169-point contrast-detect AF. Rated at .05 seconds. But I understand that the A6500 will work (autofocus) with more old A-mount lenses (with an adapter of course) than the A6000.
The A6400 is rated at .02 seconds (likewise the new A6100 and A6600 models).
There have been several threads on the experience of using Sigma Canon mount glass with Sigma's MC-11 adapter with these cameras.
