Nik 2

So DXo has announced Nik2. I used to use Nik (actually purchased them) and really like the B&W module as well as the u-point technology. But then Google bought them, made them free, then DXo bought them and did nothing so I've left them far behind. I wonder what peoples thoughts regarding the new Version. I don’t really see any feature improvements beyond new presets?

There is also some 4K support, but I think you will have to wait for version 3 towards the end of the year for hopefully some significant feature enhancements.

I used the free version regularly, and when 2 came out, I bought it. It does things in one action that take several steps to accomplish in Elements. No recommending, because I don't normally "recommend," but it satisfies me. I don't know about Photoshop CC, because I refuse to pay a monthly fee.

Works the same in Photoshop CC.

The major thing DxO did to the Nik product, besides the 4K support (which some folks find doesn't work well) and the new presets is address compatibility issues with some operating systems..

If one is not having any problems using the Google version then there is little reason to upgrade at this time.

With the new ver 2 upgrade, one gets the DXO raw processor for “free”

True. But that was added because folks were requesting to use Nik w/o being tied to Adobe. If one is using the older version of Nik then they are also using Adobe.

I recently changed computers and my Photoshop CC no longer shows my Nik plugins. I originally got them from Adobe for free. Any ideas as to how to get them back without buying Nik2 ?

You could try copying the plugin folder from the old computer.

You could also go to the DxO website and they have a link to the original software.

Or see if you have prior NIK download file (in Downloads) and reinstall on current PC
I think you can find the free version on the net if you google a bit also

You may have to re-integrate them as actions. Locate them and then follow the instructions available everywhere for adding "actions."

Installer for Windows [430 MB] http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.exe
Installer for Mac [590 MB]: http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg

I had a similar question a few months ago and Haydon gave me the web addresses that work (at least for Windows).

I hope it helps.
