Bob, normally I don't consider I am qualified to be giving advice on photography, but this is a case of I've been there and received advice from those more accomplished.

You have a really nice base scene here, but I think it's time to dust off the "artistic license", go through your photo inventory and find a nice fishing boat, preferably with outriggers out, or bird(s) in flight to insert and break up the large expanse of "sameness".
Cheers,

Cheers,

Well, that would make a nice scenic "story." However, I'm more interested in color, space, shape, composition--symphony rather than pop song, you might say.

Bob, I would not presume to introduce pop into your symphony. My on-again, off-again color vision is only "hearing" the violins, and thought a gentle piano might enhance it. Forgive my intrusion, and carry on.

No intrusion sensed. Thank you for your comment. Perhaps a better comparison, validating both our views, would have been making an analogy from the difference between classical program music like Scherazade and so-called absolute or abstract classical music such as Beethoven's 9th.

Cheers

It's an interesting shot ... I like the different aspects of light also ... the illuminated foliage in the foreground, the moon... and even what might be slightly polluted mist hanging over the water. If it were my photo, I'd be tempted to play with taking off a bit on the left side and top of the frame... to make the interesting elements draw a little more attention or be a bit more offset from center? I'm not saying that very well. :-P

Sounds like a possibility. Feel free to modify my photo to show me what you mean.

Well... I can show you three crops that don't really work. ;-) If you could drag that moon lower in the sky, I'd like the look of the second one. I guess it didn't want to cooperate. :-P The last was an experiment but it brings down the resolution way too much and isn't what you wanted to capture in the first place. It's interesting to try different ways... but maybe someone else would have the perfect solution.

Trying to retain all elements in the original

What I like the general look of but the moon is missing ... would have made a nice focal point

I like to see efforts made at personal interpretations. Usually they are valid in themselves. Sometimes they have plugged into my content and help me to express it better.

Thank you. Of your three, I like the last the most, for a reason, as you suggest, different from my original, which was gently contemplative. Your have the dynamic contrast of light/dark, jungle/civilization. I was inspired to take your idea and work on it.

I miss the beautiful mountains and horizon color but this definitely brings the eye to the texture and light play of the palms. They almost look surreal.
