I need a file manager for my pictures.

My name is Walter Ward. I'm a 77 year old semi-novice trying to use the manual setting rather than automatic camera settings. But this question concerns file management of my pictures. I have a Windows 7 system loaded with Windows Live Photo Gallery; Adobe Photoshop 5.0; Adobe Photoshop 13. As I download pictures from one of 3 cameras the pictures are assigned to a folder base on the date taken. These folders are stored under "My Pictures". The pictures also appear in either Adobe 5.0 or Adobe 13 depending which program is used to download them. All pictures also appear under Windows Live Photo Gallery.

The problem I'm having is that all pictures that get loaded through Adobe 13 are RAW files. These are not recognized by Windows Live Photo Gallery. When I look at the files in My Pictures I cannot see them. I need a some type of file manager that will permit these RAW files to be viewed as I look through My Pictures.

I hope I have explained my problem in a way that someone can help me. Thanks, Walt

Welcome to the forums.

Adobe Lightroom may meet far more than your needs (it includes processing tools).

I'm not sure I fully understand what you want to do, but maybe IrfanView could work for you. It's free, so you don't have much to loose by taking a look at it.

You need to install the appropriate Windows codec for your particular format of raw file to view it. Google something like “windows 7 codec for (your file type) raw files”, install it and reboot. If your 3 cameras use different types of raw files, you’ll need the appropriate codec for each.

You may want to check out On1 as they have cataloging and it is cheaper than Lightroom (no subscription).

This Codec works with Win 7

Irfanview is a great, fast viewer. I use it first to cull a days shoot.

I've been using ThumbsPlus for over 10 years and am very pleased. It is a database driven organizer for photos, keywords, annotations, user fields and a modest but effective photo editor.

Consider Fastone image viewer. https://www.faststone.org/

It is shareware.

Microsoft provides a free "codec" file download for older Windows versions that allows you to view RAW files. I don’t use a photo app to put my photos on my PC, I use the Windows File Explorer, then import them into PS Elements 14 for editing.

I think Bridge will work, not sure about that, though.

I would add, Adobe Lightroom Classic, since Adobe has chosen to confuse its users with multiple Lightroom products.
