Reagan (R) term office January 20, 1981 to January 20, 1989
Bush 41(R) term in Office January 20, 1989 to January 20, 1993
Clinton (D) term in office January 20 1993 to January 20, 2001
Bush 43 (R) term in office January 20, 2001 to January 20, 2009
Obama (D) term in Office January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017
trump (R) term in office January 20 2017 to no later than January 20, 2021
In those 32 years, Republicans held office more times and for longer over all than Democrats did.
So who was it that didn't give a .... ?

How very convenient of you to exclude the Reagan Recessions which lasted for 6 months and 1 year and 4 months respectively by narrowing your time line!
Granted Reagan inherited the Carter recession which lasted for 6 months, but a year after that one had ended, there was another one that lasted for 16 months which was all Reagan's doing.
You do remember that thing called Reaganonomics don't you?
That's basically the model for what trump is doing now. It didn't work then, and it's not working now.
