Help! I just got Lightroom (version? Dunno, whatever The App Store was flogging for my Mac) and cannot get it to work, at all, at all. Only reason I have it is to enter a local Arts Center contest, which requires a specific pixel count. Have searched the Web, lotsa tutorials out there, all of which start with “Lightroom will open in Library....” — which it DOESEN’T. Please help save my sanity.

No where near enough info to help. Start with your machine and your Lightroom version. Best of luck.

With so little information, guessing an answer is appropriate, maybe. If you " whatever The App Store was flogging for my Mac", you didn't get the one that "will open in Library". There are two major Lightrooms and 3 more minor Lightrooms.

I know. Zero information is what I have, or near zero. My desktop says it’s a macOS Mojave. Program says it’s Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 2.4 from Mac App Store. That’s all I got, sorry. Camera is a Leica M8, if that matters. Thanks.

Let's try a different approach, what pixel size are you trying to achieve?

"Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 2.4" does not resize ("change pixel count") images. That version is "cloud" based and aimed at people who like to use multiple devices for editing and share their images online. "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 8.4" is the version aimed at people who keep their files on their computers and do things like make prints. It will resize images. Lightroom Classic has a "Library".

Version 2.4 is old as the hills. Hopefully you got it for free because it will be a miracle if you ever get it to do anything on your machine. Best of luck.

If you got "whatever The App Store was flogging" you most likely signed up for an annual subscription. You don't "buy" Adobe Photoshop Lightroom version 2.4. There is a brief window of time where you can cancel Adobe subscriptions. I'm not sure but I think it is two weeks and is easy if you buy directly from Adobe. But, buy from third parties (Apple) may make it harder. Good luck!

Great question, CHG CANON. Let’s try that approach —Here’s the instructions I am trying to follow :

To Enter:
To enter, fill out the entry form below and submit a clear image for each entry. The image can be a jpeg, png, or tiff. To resize your image, open it in an image processing program and change the dimensions to between 800–1200 pixels on the largest side. Do NOT submit thumbnails (less than 800×800 pixels). Change the resolution to 72dpi. Make sure the resulting file size is less than 1mb.
NAME YOUR IMAGE THIS WAY (PLEASE): Name your image file BEFORE you upload it to the entry form using this format:
yourlastname_yourfirstname_title

Do not add any other information to your image name.

After that, you also print and deliver a 13x19” print. Max number entries, two; my candidates attached (un-Lightroomed, if that’s a word).

Thanks all, for answering so promptly and frankly.

That’s very helpful, Bill, and actually great news — means maybe I can cancel it and get some thing that will work. Thanks,

Jim

Most any digital editing software will allow you to resize an image based on the 'long side'. What other tools have you used / already have on your Mac?

From the Library module in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 8.4, select the image(s) and choose Export. Fill out the blanks to match your requirements.

None, or only what the Mac came with/forced me to use to store them. I normally do not edit my photos in any way, except perhaps to crop out an errant body part or background distraction. I normally work in film, with an M7.

Yes, so I understand, but apparently I have a different version, which either does not open in Library, or is very elusive in allowing access to Library. The one you showed looks a LOT more intuitive.
