Except that the gun charge was dismissed on August 5th.
All he had to do was register the gun. It's really not that difficult.

Probably not that difficult but I guess what ever law that is the drug pushers, thugs, gang members, etc. automatically line up to register their guns because everyone knows that will make NYC a safer place to live? Why is it so difficult to understand you can't legislate evil. Only good guys obey the law and we don't need laws and registration for them to be good guys.

Ever tried to register a gun in NYC Frank. It really IS that difficult. Most likely had he taken it to a police station to attempt to register the gun he would have been arrested right then and there. Please try to think before you mouth off. You speak of things you have no idea about.

Then by your definition, he wasn't a good guy.
Make up your mind.

Yes,
Multiple guns are no problem outside of NYC.
I have a CCW good in NYC and several handguns.
It wasn't that difficult, just thorough, and it's a lot less difficult if you're in a county outside of the City and only want the gun for home protection and don't want a ccw.
I see by your profile you live in three states so it should be really easy for you.
The guy was just lazy or consciously disregarded the law.
It's on him.

Unless things have changed drastically Frank those permits from counties outside NYC are only respected/applicable to every other part of NYC. I had a CCW from Putnam County when I was 21. But the permit was not applicable in NYC. If you have a permit good in NYC please post a photo of it after deleting all but your first name. We would all love to see it.

How easy for you to put down complete strangers. Did you see the photo of the guy in custody? Did you notice he is probably in the elderly class? Isn't it possible he just didn't think he needed to get a permit as he had no desire to carry a handgun. He just wanted to hang on to a firearm that his dad had owned. Can't you get that or are you so ignorant of others you don't give a crap? The man is most likely an American citizen. Under the 2nd Amendment he has a right to keep and bear firearms just as you do. The CCW permit system is simply one more way for states/counties/cities to bring in revenue. As even your daddy, dirt pointed out earlier today there are states who are going to a Constitutional system where no permit is needed. If you are over 21 years old you are entitled to carry a firearm. If you misuse that firearm then all bets are off and you will be held accountable.

I always thought it was almost impossible to get any kind of permit to carry in NYC unless you could prove things like your life was in danger, you regularly carry a large sum of money, and a few other reasons. But someone who just want's a permit to carry or own a handgun in NYC was extremely tough to get if at all?

From my experience your thinking is spot on EXCEPT if you are a movie star, contributed heavily to the Mayor's election fund or have friends in high places you will not be turned down. Just the lowly American citizen will not be considered. Of course the police will not tell you that. You would generally be invited to file for an application, pay a hefty fee, submit pages and pages of friends and relatives who think you are wonderful, employers and so on.

As I told Frank unless the system has changed since I had a NYS CCW back about 1969 or 1970 unless he has a specific NYC CCW his NYS permit is not valid in NYC.

My NYS permit was pushed through in record time as I recall because I went to the county Superior Court Clerk and mentioned I would like to get a CCW. She gave me the paperwork to fill out and I returned it to her. About a month later I received my CCW. I have to admit though that the Superior Court Clerk was the grandmother of my best friend all through school. The clerk loved my twin brother and me and we were at their house often for dinner or to play after school as younger kids. Another plus for me is the Chief of Police from the next town gave me a recommendation. I have no way of knowing but my thinking is that the court clerk went into the judge and told him I was applying for a CCW and she recommended me highly. He signed it then and there and it was sent to me. But that permit was only good for the rest of NYS, never in NYC.

Registration makes it easier to take away. Some are happy to be slaves.

Does anybody else see the word, daughter's, in my post. Me neither. Frank WTF are you smoking? I did not say I don't believe it Frank. I simply asked you to show it to us. No reason to get pissed and all uppity about it. If you can't operate a phone or a camera we are OK with it. Relaxxxx Frank. It is alright. Take a deep breath then exhale slowly. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. There now don't you feel better. Have your mommy fix you a nice PB and J sandwich, then a nice bath for nap time. It will be alright. Oh don't forget your meds. dirt will get them for you as you know they are on a high shelf so you and traitor boy can't reach them. There there now.

That is the exact reason for registration. There is no other reason to register any firearms at all. If they are stolen you will hopefully have common sense enough to have written down the serial number and description.

Glad you asked. Not me. Not ever. Whenever people used to ask me about registering their firearms with the Sheriff's Office I told them to never register anything, just write the serial number down and information about the firearm, make, model number, description and serial number. Photos always help if stolen. Registration makes no difference if recovered as long as you have the serial number to give the police. Register nothing.
