I take RAW images on my Canon. When I download them into my photos program on my MacBook Pro, I find that they change to jpegs. How can I keep them in RAW where more quality exists for me to work with? Thank you

That's weird. How are you getting them onto your computer? Are you sure you don't have both raw and JPG? Did you shoot raw+JPG?

What photos program are you using. If Apple Photos program, you should be able to go into preferences and edit the file type to download.

I don't experience that with my Macbook. Here is what I do: I take the card out of my Canon and insert in the SD card slot on my Macbook and then use the "Finder" Mac app to select and the copy the CR2 files to directly to the Macbook. Once they are on the Mac I then use Luminar to edit them.

Yeah, I think that you already had Jpegs on your card. I have never had that problem and all I shoot is RAW with my Canon cameras and only use Mac computers since giving up on my Surface PC. How are you transferring your images, directly or are you using a software program to move the images....

My error, in looking back at the info on my photos, I noticed the jpeg had been taken on an iPad and not with my Canon. We airdropped some pics from the iPad and they were in the same file as the Canon. My apologies and thank you for your time.

My error, when looking back at the info on various pics, I failed to see that some were airdropped from our iPad and those were the jpeg, Files in my photos program consist of photos from both. The Canon are indeed RAW but the iPad are jpegs. Quality from the iPad is so fabulous, should not have assumed they were from my Canon. thank you for your time.

My Mac Book Pro does this too for my Nikon. Download them to a folder - not to iphotos and they will stay RAW. It's iphotos that is changing them.

I use a Mac utility call Image Capture. This app allows you to select the folder where you want the images to go.

Takes a little searching to find out where to change the target directory, but Image Capture is also a great app for downloading HEIC format iPhone photos onto your computer without having them changed to jpegs.

You guys are always inventing a new word for some reason. This is a new one on me. Now what is 'airdrop'?

I transfer the photos from the iPad to the computer by selecting the pics then hitting the airdrop symbol, The iPad talks to my Mac computer and the photos go directly into my Photo program., No need for cards.
