When I am shooting natural history images, I prefer to take shots of the wildlife most people don't really take notice of. Herons, eagles, ducks, deer, etc. I won't pass up, but I really like the ones others care little about. They are also the toughest customers to shoot, so most give them a pass.
I enjoy the hunt and sometimes the results pay off. It has taught me that wildlife photography is not only timing, but patience as well.
Last weekend I was out shooting and just relaxing. The images aren't necessarily tack sharp, but I wanted to share them anyway. Hope you enjoy.
Brown Creeper
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Mountain Chickadee

Thanks, Angler. That was a fast post. I hadn't added all of the images yet, and there was your post. Some of them are heavily cropped, but were still nice to view. A few have a lot of artificial light, but some of these species of birds just hang out where there is little light. I don't like to boost the ISO too much if I am close enough to get an image with flash assistance.
Maybe someday I will be able to afford the D800 or D4, but not the option at the moment. I am saving for the glass update - 200-400 at the moment.

These are terrific. Enjoyed each one!
Gosh that was really a nice group of shots have several animals like it in out area but the Chipmunk was a thing that put a smile on the old face. My wife about 10 years ago worked at the Big Thunder Gold Mine in Keystone, South Dakota and the owner and her were in one of the buildings and heard sneezing, and it kind of spooked them both and after some investigating found out what it was that was doing the sneezing, it was a little chipmunk, so after that time to this day we still call all of the little chipmunks "Sneezies". Thanks for my smile for the day!!
Ah, lovely group of excellent photographs. Classy is the word i think.
drawn to the vertical trees - i think the mosses are beautiful.
thanks for sharing

I am glad I could bring a smile and pleasant memories back for you. I wish I had been there to hear the sneezing.

Thanks for taking the time to view them. I have a difficult time obtaining good photos of the deer moss. With the contrast levels being so high, I have to take many and bracket to capture one or two I can do something with. But they are my favorites as well.

I can't always get out and shoot, so I enjoy viewing all of the other images from the other members. Just thought I would contribute.
