Hey, at 75 I have just won a photographic competition for the first time - won a grand in the process. Only downside is this - I submitted two images, one of which I thought was a goer and the other to make up the numbers (you were allowed to submit two entries). I was delighted to win, but was surprised which of the two images did the job. Could all the judges out there tell me which they would have picked (if either). I

I like the first one. I like the lighting and the point of view.

I like the second. Very real impression of men working hard. Very good detail and very human interest.

For the artsy folks, I'd bet they picked #1

Read life - I'd pick # 2

Not a judge here at all so just a guess, #1?

#1 is photographically harder to capture. They both tell a story, but I can practically hear the machine in #1.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I had put #1 forward as my best bet - Nikonian 72 summed up just what I felt - but #2 won me the bucks so I guess it's now my favourite(!)

Well that's a surprise! I personally liked #2 best but assumed they would pick #1 for the "artsy" approach :)
