Regarding DSLRs in general and Nikon 5600 dslr in particular, when you make all the changes you feel are needed to take a particular shot and then take the shot or shots, following which you are finished and cut the camera off, do the settings/changes you have put in the camera remain when you cut the power back on next time or does the camera revert to the original settings when you cut it off?

with Canon, the manual describes which are: for this shot only; for this session until camera switched off; or semi-persistant (ie until you reset them. The thin user guide does not go into detail but the full manual (2 or 300 pages depending on model) does. Same as Nikon full manual?

No, in general I would not expect the settings to change. A few might, but those would be highlighted in the full manual for your Nikon camera.

What camera do you use?

The OP may not be clear enough but I think he meant the Nikon D5600.

No changes.
Camera will remain as set when powered off.

*Currently using a D5500.

**I normally set back to a general utility setting such as 320ss f8 auto ISO. on my 18-300mm in case something pops up quickly.

Regarding cars in general, will the settings on my radio, air conditioner, mirror positions, and seat positions revert to default settings when I turn the ignition off, or will they remain where they were when the engine was turned off?
Life is a puzzle.

Try it and see.
I think in full manual mode they would remain the same, however in any of the automated modes they may vary (depending on the light levels).

My Jeep, and many other vehicles, will revert to the default settings based on the key fob used. That includes sound system, seat position, steering wheel position, and maybe a couple of other things that I never noticed. It can also be set to move the seat all the way back, and move the steering wheel out of the way when you shut it off. I lower the car as I enter the garage so I can open the tailgate. When I reach a certain speed it raises to road height, then lowers slightly at highway speed. I consider it the mirrorless camera of the automotive world.

Nikon cameras with U1, U2, etc. (I believe) will revert to those settings when a camera is turned back on.

The D5600 has no 'U' presets so should turn on the way it was shut down.

My mistake.

Just like folks come here to learn how to best use the features of a camera, I had to go to a Jeep forum. And just like the camera industry, automobile user's manuals can be confusing and contradictory. By the time I got rid of my last Jeep, the owner's manual for that model year was up to version 8.

Sometimes I yearn for my Mamiya DTL 1000 and my 4 on the floor Chevy. But I get over it.

I can't speak for all makes of cameras , but generally, The Settings Change when YOU Change Them......and would only Default to Original in AUTO MODES and Not Manual or Programmable Style Settings where you set the margins.

I still have my working Mamiya DTL 1000. Bought it in a military PX in 1971.
