In Rocky Mountain NP, along the road to Bear Lake lies Sprague Lake--a favorite for picnics in the late afternoon. Unfortunately those who go for the picnic miss the beauty of this alpine lake at the break of day.
In the photo below mighty Hallet Peak catches the first light of the new day and reflects this beauty in the quiet waters of Spague Lake.
Photographed with Nikon D300, 44mm lens, f8, 1/6 sec on tripod with GND filter. Photo taken at 5:45 a.m.

Thanks for looking. "Magic Hour" is what I live for. That is, without a doubt the time of day to have a camera in hand. Colors are so much more vivid and there is a peace and a "feeling" that is just not there any other time of the day.

Thanks for looking. Man I wish I could get to your neighborhood to shoot. I have found Florida great for birds, and hurricanes, but not much else. I spend my summers in search of elevation. Been to the Smokies, and the Rockies this year. Shooting mountains improves my photographic skills. They mountains are a whole different world---love to see some of your shots--You've got a few little peaks to shoot. . .

It is beautiful here when it is clear. The last two summers we have had a lot of overcast cloud cover making photos difficult. I posted some Alaska sunsets on UHH. The last comment was August 28th at 21:57 - scroll down to that date. It is posted as Alaskan Sunsets.
