I am going to go wander around the UK for a couple of weeks next spring and am already thinking about what to take. I have a Nikon D7200 but not sure if I want to lug that beast and lenses around. So I’m thinking about adding a travel camera and leaving the Nikon at home. Thinking about Mirrorless or high end point and shoot. To confuse me even more, a camera store guy stuck an Olympus OMD-EM5 Mark II in my hands last week and I fell in love with the form factor. Any suggestions before I do something stupid?? Oh and my current lenses are Nikkor 35 f/1.8, Nikkor 50 f/1.8, Nikkor 105 f/2.8 micro, and Sigma 18-300. Thanks in advance!

The D7200 really isn't a beast. It's bigger than the Olympus, but it has a larger sensor too.
Take your D7200 and the 18-300mm lens. Maybe take the 35mm too to carry in your pocket in case you need f/1.8.

Unless you're looking at a camera that will easily fit in your pocket, stick with the 7200. Hopefully you know how to use it, have a range of familiar lenses and won't be out of pocket money. This forum has a selection of "travel" camera posts, so look them up if you're interested. (Use the money you save to enjoy the trip, splurge on better restaurants, a tour or two and maybe some theater).

UK is filled with myriad photo ops - two trips years back 2 Nikon F bodies, 5 lenses, powerwinder, small electronic flash, filters, 20 36x rolls of film. Used everything but the flash. Wonderful time, lots of good photos. Were I to go again,(decades older) equivalent kit but Nikon digital. Probably a bit more even than still usual on U.S. trips. Depends on your "Mission" every trip I take is at least 50% photography.

Perfect advice.

Thank you all. I love my D7200. I think you’re right. Maybe I’ll take it and the 35mm and the 18-300. Thank you all so much. I feel like I just fought off a big GAS attack!

Good choice. I took my Canon 5DIII to Europe last year and for weight considerations I left the battery grip at home. I don't have an all in one lens, bit took a 16-35mm and the 24-105. Captured all I wanted to shoot and would not have gotten the results with my G16 or a bridge camera. I did take the G16 as a backup and for my wife to use, although she preferred to just use her phone. Can't seem to break her of that!

You know your D7200 and will be happy taking it. A good comfortable carry bag that suits your style will make the trip more enjoyable.

You did good. So often here people are getting ready for the BIG vacation, and they want to dump their good camera for something small and new. I always advise to take what you know and like.

Do the "stupid" .... you'll love it !

FWIW he's prolly hustling it cuz it's just
recently discontinued. OTOH .... hit him
for a DEAL :-)

Just recently bought my OMD-EM5 MkII
with the 14-150 [28-300eq] travel lens
cuz I could hardly refuse it at $500 for
the kit ... open box special at BestBuy.

Both items are weather resistant, so it's
a fine choice for springtime in the UK :-)

It IS a very sweet little camera. Fit my smallish hands perfectly. I guess I’ll have to see what happens closer to trip time. The Nikon is weather sealed too but the lenses aren’t. It would be nice to have something small to travel with, especially for street photography but is definitely a “want” rather than a “need”.

I recently switched from Canon APC to Oly , getting the OMD EM1MII, 14-150, 9/18 and 70-300 lenses. I ended up with a much more sophisticated camera kit that is smaller and lighter than my previous kit. We are going to France in May, I will be taking the 9-18 and 14-150. My overall suggestion is buy the Oly, especially the EM1MII and sell all of your Nikon gear and do not look back.

You don't need a special camera when you come to the UK, but as an Olympus camera user, I would recommend an Olympus due to its size and weight. If you take the Olympus route buy it soon you can get familiar with it. As a UK resident do not hesitate to ask for any advice about your visit.

I like small and unobtrusive for travel. One lens with a decent zoom range would be ideal. Getting a small camera with a large lens would be counterproductive.

TRAVEL RIGHT, TRAVEL LITE.
My camera of choice for all my trips is the Sony HX99. It has a 24-750 mm ZEISS lens, a pop up viewfinder for outdoor shooting, a pop up flash for auto fill flash, a 6 stop HDR setting, and can shoot RAW. I have a belt pouch for it and I am HANDS FREE to enjoy my vacation.
And, I can get beautiful 20X30 prints.
Oh, did I mention the rear screen flips for low angle shooting and selfies.
