Shield Bug that an Ill Wind Blew In

Well I’ve never seen one of these before.

The wind blew down a sizeable branch from the tree in my garden last night, during the clearing up exercise I noticed quite a colourful bug (I believe it’s a Shield Bug: thanks internet). I just had to down tools and get the camera out.

The little blighter would not keep still, I had to chase it up and down the branch managing to take about sixty pictures before my back started to ache so I cut off the side branch it was on and wedged it back in the tree for it to go on it’s merry way unhindered.

I’ve shared my favourites.

These are excellent. They come in many different colors in my part of the world but that particular color arrangement is new to me.

Yes that is a good looking Shield Bug. I like to see the nymphs too as they are particularly pretty during their various changes to adulthood.

Nice work! I've never seen a shield bug that colorful before -- usually just green or grey-ish brown plain ones around here.
