For various reasons, I have a number of duplicate images, especially family photos, scattered throughout the drives and folders on my computer. I would like to be able to locate and delete the superfluous duplicates as quickly and easily as possible. Any advice or recommendations on appropriate software would be greatly appreciated. My computer is a Dell desktop with Windows 10.

Best regards,

Are you looking for a filmstrip preview? Lightroom has a filmstrip. If you shoot with Nikon, download Capture NX-D from Nikon's website. It has that also.

I looked at this and have some doubts. The requirements "Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista/Windows 7" I looked at the latest updates (year 2012) and there was no indication that the program will work with more modern versions.

Yup.

So far this program while relatively old offer a comparison that gives you a % of similarity so images that are very similar are noted with a % of similarity.

As a matter of fact I am using it now...

For info...

For older programs that are now windows 10 compliant there are options that allow quite a few software titles to run using compatibility mode.

This particular program does not need it (compatibility mode).

Thank you; I'll try it.

I use it. First time through it's good and gets rid of the obvious. Saves a lot of time. Not so good with subsequent passes but you need to remember its just nailed a huge amount of work you don't have to do. I think it's a yearly subscription but from my point of view, it's done its job already so I don't need to continue.

It is free.
I comes as a 'bonus' with other things but by itself, no cost.

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand what a filmstrip preview is/does. Could you give me a very brief explanation/description of this feature in Lightroom?

Thanks for your quick reply.

I like DuplicateFileFinder - free version. It took about two minutes to go through over 56k images and find 837 duplicates. I checked File name, Extension, and Time/Date. It's one thing to find the duplicates, but it's quite another to go through them and make sure you want to delete them. I intentionally keep some images in two or more folders.
