I'm interested in getting a great walk around lens for a Sony a6000. I'll be using it in urban settings. I'd like it to be a zoom. Any suggestions?

The Sony 18-135 is a light, compact zoom that works very well for me.

My walk about/utility lens for both Canon and Nikon is a 28-300 zoom. My Canon is full frame and my Nikon is crop.

I absolutely agree! It’s my walk around lens for my regular and my FS-converted a6000 cameras (but not at the same time.)

Really? Does that work well with the Sony a6000 that the OP owns? Will wonders never cease.

Never said or implied it did, at least not without an adapter. Since you obviously didn't understand what I said and why, I will attempt to explain the ceaseless wonder. First, I don't know what focal range zoom lenses Sony offers.
If you go back and re-read my posting, you will notice I mentioned two manufacturers, Canon and Nikon. I also pointed out that my utility lens on both my Canon and Nikon bodies is a 28-300 lens. So, it's fairly obvious to almost anyone with a half ounce of common sense, the point I was making is the focal range of 28-300, not that my Canon or Nikon lens will mount to a Sony body. To quote a very wise bunny, aaaahhhh, what an ultra maroon, and as we all know, common sense isn't.

Sigma has just opened a new world of lenses for SONY. Don't rule them out. 17-702.8-4 or the 17-50 2.8.

The Sony 16-50 mm is good if you want compact, and the Tamron 18-200 mm is good if you want distance, but then it's no longer a small camera. I got my Tamron from eBay.

To answer your question, I have the Sony 18-135, it is a great walk around lens.

I highly recommend.

I use the Sony 24-105 on my Sony a7iii. It is an excellent lens though a bit pricy. As a walk around I would prefer a bit more reach but I don't think I could get better quality.

I just bought an 18-135 for my A6000 to use as my walk around camera.

I love my 70-300 G lens. It spends more time than any other lens on my camera, but I shoot more nature, a shorter zoom might be better for you. I use the close focusing allot.

Perhaps a better question is "Does Sony make a lens in that focal length?" or maybe "Does anyone make a lens in that focal length that will fit his camera?" Harry

I probably should have added that I like the sound of that 18-135! And better than that 24-105 suggestion, especially if the IQ is somewhat similar..
