End Of An Era In Tennis For The Williams Sisters?

Venus and Serena Williams learned to play tennis in Compton, California, a tough City, even when the sisters were young there. Under guidance from their father, both sisters developed into great tennis players. But, I think we are beginning to see the demise of both. Serena got beaten badly by Simona Halep, a spunky Romanian woman who looked confident right from the beginning. Venus lost in the Wimbledon Finals two years ago, and in an earlier match some days ago, was defeated by a 15 year old named Coco Gauff. Who admired both the William's sisters. A teenager who will rise in the rankings in the future. Being from Southern California, and witnessed the evolution of these sisters. The two added to the already popular women's tennis program in the USA. I don't know if I should be sad, because every good thing comes to an end in sports. Man and woman. If neither of the sisters never play tennis again, they are certainly financially secure, having earned millions of dollars. Now, Simona Halep from Romania, will get the British Royal treatment, She will meet sisters Kate and Pippa Middleton. And probably Meghan, wife of Prince Harry. And later the congratulatory Ball, that is given to the champion. Serena, has been to many of them in her honor. Congratulations Simona Halep. You played a great and decisive match. You earned it too.

Getting to the finals at Wimbledon is quite an accomplishment. Serena was second best of the women players in the tournament.

Yes, second place is still good for a veteran player who had a baby not long ago. It's like getting a silver medal in the Olympics. Not bad at all. Serena was favored to win, just because she's Serena. She was ranked #10 and her opponent was ranked #7. It was how she lost that was so horrible. And the British Sports Media let her have it, on how she performed. No mercy whatsoever. She was put in an uncomfortable position answering those questions. I do wish her well though. My father once told me that everyone has they heydays.

I never thought I’d say it, but, for the most part, she was a great Champion. Don’t expect her to fade away. She is not yet done. Look at Federer; he isn’t what he once was, but on a given day he can still win any tournament.
Age is a bitch, though.

Great..YES. Best of all time..Maybe. Life moves on. For athletes like Serena, 2nd place is not acceptable. She will retire when she feels that 1st is no longer an option. Her choice. Let's enjoy watching her play for as long as she wishes.

I have always said:
AGE, this world’s most unforgiving bitch.
No, wait!
AGE and GRAVITY, this world’s two most unforgiving bitches.
No, wait!
AGE, GRAVITY and DEATH, this world’s three most unforgiving bitches.

Venus and Serena Williams learned to play tennis i... (show quote)

There is a time in all sports when the youth and vigor of your opponent becomes more effort than you can muster. But if the joy of just playing, is more important than winning, then sometimes we can stay dangerous, because those young upstarts may have youth and energy on their side but, experience can still make for a great show! It is a personal choice as to when the joy of playing is outweighed by the frustration of aches and pain the next day, or five!😉

I watched Bjorn Borg and 'Super Brat' fade from the scene LONG ago.
None have surpassed either in my appreciation for Tennis.
The Williams sisters come in second. To everything there is a time and a season.
They ALL will live forever in the records books.

There is a time for everyone and everything. The Williams sisters have definitely made their mark in tennis and as women. Time is a divider where it opens the door for our youth to come through and replace those on top. Yes, there is always a bright spot where the elder may come and shine through. The Williams sisters are not playing as much tennis as they used to and this also plays a part in their demise. Don't begrudge those who come up from the depths to win but give praise to both those who are on top and those who are coming up to the top.
