Sigma is announcing soon their new entry level full frame mirrorless camera body. It will be the lightest and cheapest full frame mirrorless available, which begs to forebode a higher end model to follow. Not many specs or price yet but its coming this winter.
It will accept all L mount lenses for full compatibility with Leica and Panasonic L mount, full frame mirrorless lenses, as well as Sigma own upcoming L mount collection. (Including their new 35mm F1.2 ART L Lens)
Very nice! Do you know the price? L mount lenses would be expensive. Full electronic shutter is great. Sigma doesn't use the Foveon sensor for this one. I wonder if it uses full width for video.

Sigma is being VERY quiet about this camera. I have not even seen it in any of the rumor mills yet. My pic is official Sigma image.
The Panasonic/Olympus M4/3 system has been fun to watch because the various brands that helped build it. It will be equally fun to see Panasonic/Leica/Sigma grow an L series system.
A no-go for me. No viewfinder.
MT Shooter said it will be the cheapest full frame so it has to be less than $1000 and if it is the case I think I will get one but the L lenses are expensive.

The cheapest CURRENT full frame mirrorless is the Canon RP at $1299, so technically, even at $1295 it would still be the cheapest.
Sony's A7ii is cheaper but was superceded by the A7iii so not actually a "current" model.

That would be my response as well if I were considering it.
No viewfinder, no way. Why would they waste this expensive sensor in something that is similar to a compact camera?
It will be interesting to see the image quality if they use their Foveon sensor technology. Every pixel records full color data.

Same reason everyone else builds mirrorless cameras with no EVF, cost. I have no doubt Sigma will also release a higher end model with the EVF.
NOT a Foveon sensor, its a Bayer sensor. Foveon is a 3 layer sensor (one red, one blue, one green) whose 15MP per layers results in a 45MP image in the SD1 Merrill. 3 4.7MP layers in the DP cameras for a total 14.1MP image once combined.
I do agree that the Foveon technology would have been interesting, but to use it in a full frame mirrorless would obviously have been problematic, as well as quite expensive. Maybe it has a chance of being used in a future high end model at some point. I do like the Foveon color palette in the SD1 Merrill camera.

My thought as well, though it would probably work well for video with an auxiliary monitor.
Doesn’t look like it’s made to take an add on eye-level EVF similar to what I had for my Panny GX-1 for still photography.
Maybe the next generation will have something.
Wouldn't that body be difficult to handle with FF lenses?

Yes it does and its mainly a video rig, of course its for stills as well, but the specs favor video (although electronic shutter is a disadvantage, for flash as well)!

Click the links. Foveon is wishful thinking.
Pleasant wishes, but only wishes :-(
