I am in Iceland at this moment. At this time of year the sun never dips below the horizon, so high iso performance isn't an issue.

On a dark cloudy day I was up to 4000 ISO so I could keep my speed up for Arctic Terns in flight, you never know...

As a novice compared to what I read here,It is good when I read tech. information especially when it is helpful to improve my photography skills. But I notice a lot of "my camera is bigger and longer and much more expensive than yours". For my use,I am happy with the gear I have be it a point and shoot or DSLR.

Why waste money on gear if you are not going to take it where it will provide the best photos possible?
I do not understand why people on this site invest thousands on the latest whatever then take trips to exotic places and take the modern version of an instamatic. Leave the 5 extra pairs of shoes or 15 extra clothes changes home.
Take you good stuff or just sell it all and keep the little Sony full time.

It is possible for someone to put together their "dream" outfit on paper, perhaps a big DSLR and a bag full of lenses, but then find out after a few trips that it's more of a burden (to them) than an asset. Sometimes you just can't know something until you know it.

You MIGHT want to walk around with 20 pounds of photo equipment if you're so inclined, but not everyone wants to do that. And like I said, you might not figure out which way you want to go on that until you try it once or twice.

It is very possible that you could do very well with your Sony but why not take something like the MFT with lenses for a trip that could easily be the trip of a lifetime. I say the same about the full frame.
You seem to be learning your new Sony camera and that is not the way to travel with a new camera. You know your MFT and your full frame cameras better so shooting should be much easier with something you already know.
If I were traveling to Iceland for sure I would take one of my cameras with interchangeable lenses along with my tripod. You could regret not doing so.

I have been to Iceland three times to fish for Atlantic Salmon. Each time was a trip of a lifetime, even the time I caught no fish. Whatever you decide about the camera, be sure to take a lot of money. A whole lot.

On my last trip to Hawaii, I took a Nikon D300 with two zoom lenses and a Canon Sureshot G11. I pretty much used the G11 for the entire trip. I only used the DSLR for taking some pictures of some surfers from the window of my condo.

The Sony you are planning on taking looks like a very nice little camera. I’ve never been sorry for packing light. And now when I travel by air, I only pack the big cameras if photography is the primary purpose of the trip.

I’m leaving to Iceland in a couple of days and I am really committed to traveling light. So, I’ve decided to take only the outrageously expensive Sony RX100 iv as my main camera. I hear it’s a great little camera, if i can get thru the detailed menus before I take off. (My iPhone is my backup).

Will I regret leaving my full frame or MFT with a variety of lenses at home and traveling instead with one of the smallest high quality compact bridge cameras instead?

Thanks BJW

I am hoping to go to Iceland 1st quarter 2020. Following is a link from the photography workshop tour I am leaning heavily towards choosing. Go to Iceland Photo Tours and click on their link for Camera Equipment. UHH rejected my first posting containing the actual link.

This link is if you want to take photos of ice caves, panoramic landscapes and hopefully, the Northern Lights.

If you are focused more on taking photos that are more varied in their subject matter, then perhaps traveling light is just the ticket. Hope this helps!
