I have a HP printer that uses the #22 color ink cartridge. The problem is that I rarely use the color ink and the cartridge dries up or appears to be, as it doesn't print out on alignment. Running the clean ink jets doesn't do anything. Cartridge level indicates half full. I suspect the heads are clogged with dry ink and wonder how to clean them. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

Alcohol pad is what I use
I give them a long soak in plain water, then press them up against the spout to force water through.
Buy a cheap colour lazer printer

I just love it when a poster asks a question and gets a totally irrelevant answer. I am pretty certain that buying a cheap colour lazer printer isn’t going to unclog the cartridge head, which is what was asked.
I disagree. I believe that the advice given was relevant and a good suggestion. The poster doesn’t use color inks often, so the problem will continue to occur as long as the poster uses an inkjet. Laser cartridges contain a powder and never have that problem. There is one downside; photos printed with a laser printer aren’t as good as ones printed with a high quality photo inkjet printer, but they’re acceptable.
A color print a day works for me.

I do not know if this will work ..... if you are not going to use the printer for an extended period .... take the ink cartridges out and put then in a plastic bag until you need them ..... I have not tried it, but I have a Canon printer .... the cartridges come with an orange tab .... I leave NJ for 6 months each winter, I will try both storage methods .... tabs and bag .... I am tired of spending $ 126 dollars for new cartridges each time I return home .....

Thanks for the ideas. I'll also check on the prices for a laser printer, and cartridge cost.
