"Foating Whitehouse"

The USS Potomac was F.D.Roosevelt's yacht and dubbed the "Floating Whitehouse", from 1936 until it was decommissioned by President Truman in 1945. It was originally built by the US Navy as a submarine chaser in 1934. The second smoke stack was converted to an elevator to facilitate the President's wheel chair. In the Potomac's illustrious history, she was owned by Elvis Presley, was involved in drug running operation from Mexico and then sank near Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. She was re-floated by the Navy and sold to a non-profit Potomac Association. It is berthed at Jack London Square for dockside tours and regular cruises on San Francisco Bay.

Do a search on Howell Houser, who produced the public television series California’s Gold. He covered it, with interviews, on one of the shows. His archives are online with some on YouTube.
