I've been watching a killdeer on a nest of 4 eggs for weeks. I didn't know when she first laid the eggs. They are incubated 24 to 28 weeks. I was very lucky to see them hatch.
The tree bark is a great camouflage for the nest but not very good for pictures.
I haven't posted for quite awhile because it is a whole different story with my new computer. I hope this posts. I welcome comments and criticisms.

Are you sure about that incubation time? My chickens take around 21 DAYS to hatch an egg.
(Or so I am led to believe. They haven't hatched yet so I can't count them).

Great set of photos. Thank you for posting.

A couple of notes: I think the incubation period is 24 - 28 days, not weeks. Also, did you or will you get to see them fledge?

Annie, it must be great watching this process. The shot of the chick is so cute!

If Google is correct, the killdeer eggs are incubated between 24 and 28 days.

It was a fun 'project' Carol. Strange thing - they have disappeared since they hatched. I imagine they go
into hiding so they won't be a meal for some cat or raccoon. Smart birds.

My bad. It is 24 to 28 DAYS. Glad you brought that to my attention.

Thank you, Stan. Glad you brought it to my attention it's 24 to 28 DAYS, not weeks.
The minute the eggs hatched the chicks went into hiding. No one has seen hide nor feather of them since they hatched.
They didn't want to be a meal for some cat or raccoon. Smart birds.

A very nice series Annie. It's always nice to see a series following the incubation of the fledgelings. Hope you are able to catch them as they get ready to leave the nest. Mahalo for sharing.
