Recently I lost the use of my Nikon E5600. I used it for at least getting the shot when I didn't have my larger Nikons. I need something smaller so I can put it in my pocket. I would like to get one with a view finder. I find it very difficult to get the composition I want by just using the LED screen. I tried to use the Nikon W300 but, without the viewfinder, I found it difficult to use, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Larry

I just posted this today. Maybe it fills the bill for you, and it does have a viewfinder also.

If you can find one, look for my favorite - Panasonic LF-1 or its co-branded equivalent the Leica C Type 112

How big is your pocket? The pocket on a men's medium dress-shirt is different (in size, material, etc.) than a pocket in a bird-hunter's game coat.
You refer to your new selection as a "pocket-camera". How well does it "carry" in the front pocket of a pair of medium-size Levi's 501 jeans?

Thanks, I'll try looking for it. I sure need something..
Everyone, including me, will recommend their favorite p&s. Mine have consistently been in the RX100 series since they came out. They are more expensive, which is an issue, but the 1" sensor and the quality zeiss lens give me quality that I can live with, which I have not found in other p&s cameras I have tried. I especially like it for hiking as it fits in my shirt pocket. Sony started putting view finders on the camera with the mk 3 version. It was ok, but the recent ones are much better. The earlier versions which Sony still sells and produces are obviously cheaper. Mostly the improvements are incremental. My most recent version is the VI, which I like because of the long lens and the good viewfinder, but it is very expensive. The cameras are workhorses. A friend accidentally dropped my original rx100 on a marble floor at Hearst castle. A few scratches, but no damage. I got caught in a rain/snow storm near the top of Mt Whitney with the same camera in my pocket--no damage. I sold it last year when I got the vi, but it was still working well and I was still using when I wanted slightly longer reach. I liked the image quality on older Panasonics, but they were much fussier with rain, etc. and I think the image quality was better on the older ones, though I haven't used anything in the LX series. When I got my first Sony, another camera friend got a Fuji with a fixed lens--it didn't zoom, but it had the same kind of image quality I was getting from the Sony's. Most of the cameras out there take pretty decent pictures now, though I gave up on the tough/waterproof sorts of cameras as they just didn't have the image quality I wanted. Good luck--you have a lot to choose from!
In addition to being expensive, the Sony RX100 has a menu system that many claim is not intuitive. The later generations have a pop-up viewfinder.
Like SpideJan, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 and am very happy with it. It is pocketable (in large pockets), has a 1" sensor, viewfinder, and fair zoom range (10X). The cost is less than 1/2 that of the Sony.

If the jeans are relaxed fit, it would fit. Not so well with skinny jeans.
Thanks to all: Some good information. Yep, I have a lot to think about but I am getting in narrowed down quite at bit. Looking seriously at the Panasonic Lumix DSC DZ100. View finders are a bit rare in recent years. Again thanx to, you helped a bunch...
FWIW - There is also the Lumix DC-ZS200, simliar to the DMC-ZS100 but a stronger tele end (360mm).

Something to consider, the Ricoh GR3.
DPREVIEW has a new review today and the Sony and Pany win.
For true shirt pocket fit with viewfinder, RAW, good lens reach, etc, take a look at the Panasonic Lumix ZS50, 60, & 70.
Good luck with whatever choice you make.
