Anna sure does have a lot of hummingbirds!
An amateur French ornithologist of the first half of the 19th century named them after a French Princess.
Back then they only lived in Baja and Southern California but thanks to people planting a lot of their favorite flowers in gardens and yards (then seeds spread and they became wild) and the warming climate after the end of the Little Ice Age they now live along the coast and west slopes of the mountains all the way up to Southern Alaska and east in parts of the Southwest and North West Mexico.
