could look into Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 & Adobe Premiere Elements 10 they are consumer version of Photoshop and and Premiere they don't have all the features of the pro version but the most commonly used and are a heck of a lot cheaper
You're welcome.
I'm a newbie so take this with a large grain of salt:
I haven't found anything Elements can do that can't also be done with Paint.net.

ooops i b4 e never was a good speller!!
I don't in depth you want to but Douglass Moody made me a happy caper with Picaso3 and its free.
It depends on how much you want to do. I started with Elements years ago and graduated to CS. However, PICASA is a free organizing and editing software you can download and I've used it now for a few years now. There is also a free program called GIMP which allows you to do editing and it is photoshop-like.
I say start with the free stuff and decide how much you want to do. If you still want Elements or CS you can get them on Ebay a lot cheaper and right now thru the end of August Adobe has a sale on CS6 if you check their site. Happy editing...
FastStone is a good viewer and editor for photos it is free at
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htmAlso, a free program with Photoshop like capabilities if GIMP available.
http://www.gimp.org/For those how have looked at Gimp in the past, there have been a lot of major changes lately, including higher bit depth processing and user interface changes.
Picasa 3.0, Free download, maybe it would help!
Cost $0.00 to try.
Thanks

I have several versions of Elements 2 through 9 and have always liked it very much. No problem running it on XP professional.
I do not edit video so I can only relate what others have said about Premiere. Beware of Adobe Premiere !! Read the reviews on Amazon and other sites before you buy and install it. Lots of complaints about freezing up computers.
I believe in reading reviews before buying. If other people are having problems, I KNOW I WILL !!!
