Best College Basketball Player Drafted By New Orleans Pelicans

Zion Williamson, age 19 now, who played Basketball for Duke University, has been drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans. Never before in history, has there been a celebration of a player being drafted in any city. The French Quarters in the city partied all night. Zion is a big young man, standing 6 feet 7 inches, weighing 280 pounds. He joins other players in their early to mid twenties. Will New Orleans win a championship soon? Probably not. But, he will be exciting to watch. Sports Cable TV broadcasts will adjust their NBA schedules, just to increase their ratings. Duke University had the highest TV ratings when he played just one season with them. I wish him and his new team well. New Orleans now have Drew Brees and Zion Williamson. The Saints and the Pelicans. Drew Brees will eventually meet him in person, before the football season begins. Drew Brees is a beloved icon already, in the city of New Orleans. New Orleans is a most interesting city. With a distinct culture like no other American city.

I'm an Warrior fan but good luck to The Pelicans. From what I remember The French Quarter doesn't need a reason to party, they need a reason not to.

I agree. But, the TV cameras showed Bourbon Street packed like a sardine can. I hadn't seen that since Mardi Gras time.

We’ll see--usually the hype outdoes the player.

The Pelicans aren't going to replace the popularity of the Saints. Not yet at least. The Saints have won a Superbowl. The Pelicans have to wait a while for a championship. If he plays anyway near what he did at Duke University, he will be fun to watch.

Zion is a freak of nature and worth selecting a second team to follow!

The Raptors played the socks off the Warriors, and will do so for several more years.

I wasn't aware that NO even had an NBA team, but it'll take more than one player - even a Duke star - to put the Pelicans in contention for a title.

The shot TV showed was Fulton St. by Harrah's Casino but I suspect Bourbon was rocking also!! I miss those times, Florida has nothing like it.

Drew Brees has met with Zion Williamson, and gave him a signed, framed, football jersey of his. It said, "I'm passing the torch to you." Nice gesture, but there a couple of years left in Drew. He met some bad luck, the past two years. First, that Minnesota Vikings playoffs upset. And, of course, that horrible pass interference call, when the Saints played the LA Rams at home last year. One day the torch will be passed. Not yet though.
