They are in my yard too:-) Yours certainly are pretty, and it looks like you have several varieties.

4 from my yard. Rose of Sharon are bushes and very hardy. I prune mine in April and they start flowering in May-June and grow to about 7-10 feet. They bloom until the first really hard frost, usually the middle - late October.

The Hibscus flower is also much larger then the Rose of Sharon. Hibscus is about 3 1/2" in dia. While the Rose of Sharon is only about 2" to 2 1/2" in dia. Both beautiful flowers. Rose of Sharon will popup all over your yard. If you have one you will find them growing all over. I dig out the small ones and give them away.

You are right there Hal, I probably get 30 or 40 pop up plants a year.

Hibiscus is a VERY LARGE FAMILY of flowers. The different variations also use "common names" of "Rose of Sharon" and "rosemallow".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus
The Rose of Sharon is a very common variety of Hibiscus as are other varieties that range from plants to bushes and even some that appear more like trees. The variations also lead to many people confusing the exact definitions. The only connecting term is that they are of the "Hibiscus" family.
