LR removes exported files during syncronization.

I sometimes export my adjusted raw file as a JPG to the same directory and have LR set to stack the files and to add the JPG to the library. When I do this it works fine. However, if I then tell LR to synchronize that folder, it tells me the JPG I just created, which I can view, is a missing file and it wants to remove it from the catalog. If I say "synchronize", it does remove it from the catalog, but it does not remove it from the hard drive. It will then not allow me to reimport that JPG to the catalog. I have a different catalog and this does not happen in that catalog. How can I get this changed. The JPG should not be detected as a "missing photo" since it is in the catalog and it is on the drive and I just created it. I have attached a sequence of screen shots to show my export settings and the results.

Try a technical support chat with Adobe, a feature of your subscription.
Or, don't add your export images into the catalog, given you can always export them again as needed ...

Why export them back? I use a directory not under LR and export them there. Giving them long names as to what they are. You can always re-export at will. saving htem back with the source is more confusing and a waste of catalog space.

My guess would be it's something to do with the "export to the same..." setting. Somehow, whatever you are doing, it is confusing the program algorithm. I, like some others who have responded, cannot comprehend why you would do this routinely. The beauty of the LR application is that you don't need to do this type of thing since you can quickly export any image you need in any format, size, and/or resolution that you might need. Having a bunch of 72 ppi jpg files would only be confusing to me and could lead to sending someone the wrong thing. When I use images in digital format I export them as needed, put them in a temporary folder on my desktop, send them where ever it is they need to go, then trash that temporary folder with the jpeg images. I only keep original RAW files and/or tiffs in my LR library. Calling Adobe is your best bet if finding a solution to this is important to you.

Hi George,

I did a test.

(1) created a folder called /Test and copied a raw file into /Test;
(2) Opened LR Classic (subscription version) and Imported the raw file, with "Add to Catalog" checked;
(3) Exported the raw file as a JPEG into /Test, without renaming it;
(4) Synchronized folder.

Everything worked as expected. I did not get a "Remove from catalog?" message
Note: I am using a Mac, and the LR export window does not have the "Add to Stack" option.

Some suggestions:
(1) Try renaming the file when exporting, try something like "MyFilename_LRout".
(2) Try unchecking "Add to stack".

See if that makes any difference.

You might want to chat with Adobe but here's what I do..........

Remember jpegs eat up storage space so I create a temporary folder I'll called photo exports. Subdirectory under that called printing and another directory called internet, for places like Facebook and so forth, that are smaller. when exporting from Lightroom I just maintain the same file name so that if I need to do it again I can find it again easily in Lightroom to re-export.

After I'm done printing or uploading the images I delete them.
