On my Monday morning bike ride, I saw this woman fishing in a canal. Two weeks ago, this canal was dry. Later in the summer the flow in this canal will be much greater. The rainy season has started. Shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40.

Interesting shot. That's what we should be looking for. The abstract shot makes me look, think and/or admire. This picture makes me think and wonder.

I believe she is simply lowering the net, either just waiting for fish to come or tossing in the middle of the net simple bread crumbs. When enough fish show up, she lifts the net and angles it to slide them to her hands and slip them in her fish basket on her hip. Fishing with old bread crumbs and though the fish may be very small, she will do well feeding her family.

I would guess she is catching minnows to use for bate in some real water source. I have never seen this style frame but throw nets are common.

You wouldn’t think so if you and your family are hungry.

In 3rd world countries this is common, to eat small fish. But either way, it's pretty simple and effective. She may use them to fish for larger ones but that is what this interesting picture has done. Like a journalist's shot, it made us wonder?

You eat smelt, sardines, anchovies or whatever that small fish that comes to the beaches of the west coast on a full moon? No different than what she is attempting to catch. Interesting shot of real life. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Thanks to everyone for looking. I didn't expect some of the responses I read. Although the structure in the photos gives the appearance of a drainage channel, I would classify it more as a wet weather creek as it runs through mostly undeveloped areas and farm land. The photos were taken a little over 100 yards upstream from the confluence with the Kok River which causes me to believe the water in the stream had backed up from the river and is probably the source of any fish she caught.

Some funky looking water--I wouldn't eat anything that came out of it, but then I am fortunate enough to have to option not to. Very nice journalistic pic. Thanks.
