My cousin is visiting with me, along with his two teenage daughters, from Tennessee, ages 17 and 18. The oldest just graduated from High School. This 7 day trip to California is the first to California for the teenagers. The father purchased in Tennessee, from a pawn shop, a Canon T4i with an 18-55mm kit lens, his very first DSLR, he also owns a tablet that takes photos, and all of them own iPhones. I took them on a one day sightseeing trip, that lasted about 4 hours. Thus far they have taken over 1,000 photos, including the graduation ceremonies in Tennessee, which I did not attend. The father used the Canon T4i to take beautiful photos of his daughter's graduation. Using only an 18-55mm Canon kit lens. I own a Nikon 18-55mm, but rarely use it. He and his daughters rented a car and have visited the Mojave Desert, and are now in Northern California. They will return to Southern California Sunday, and leaving for home on Monday. Any photographic devices they have, they are using them. As an amateur myself, I can only watch these eager novices in amazement. The girls moving this way and that way, to get that elusive shot. They are having so much fun taking photos. They will be thrilled to show me their photos upon returning. Yes, photography can be fun. Regardless of what type of camera equipment you own. The used Canon T4i with only an 18-55mm kit lens has stepped up to the plate. Doing well. And, you can't beat enthusiasm either. And, once they learn to use manual and PP, if they desire? They can only get better.

I owned a Canon T4i a few years back, it took great pictures. I hope they have a fun and safe vacation, Mas.

I had a T4i for a few years, it was kind of a fun camera to own and use. I think Canon's first dSLR with a touch screen.

Although I purchased an 80D and mostly use that camera, I still have and use my T2i. There were only a few limited situations where it caused me to upgrade. As long as I don't try to use it in those situations, it does a fine job.

I don't still have the 18-55 lens that came with my 1st DSLR, an XT. I sold them and an 18-135.

Nice one to listen to, thank you for that. I hope their enthusiasm gets only stronger over time! Lovely story!

Interesting. The T1i was released in 2009 with 15 megapixels, and just 3 years later, the T4i was released with 18 megapixels. That's a new model every year during that time.

I'm still using my T4i and T1i, tempted to move up but they both work so well...

EXACTLY!
(I'm still using a Galaxy S-III for the same reason! It does everything I need.)

I know.....
I got the T1i in 2010 and three months later the T2i was out.
Now the T7i?
Glad I don't need the latest and greatest!

Still have a T2i that I bought new in 2011, and it gets used once in a while, although my 80D and 70D see most of the action now. Bought a used 60D a couple years ago with a count less than 18K for $250, (couldn't resist).

I have bought TWO T1i's as this model works so well for me and I wanted another one just in case something happened to the other T1i. So, as I was browsing on the web I spotted an EOS 5D (classic) for a bargain including things as battery grip, strap, chargers and batteries, etc. I decided to see what I might have been missing with the full frame camera. It cost almost $50 to mail it to me! Yes, it's heavy and has 12.8 megapixles and cost $3,500.00 in 2005 so I decided that I would like to own a Canon 5D. After seeing so many of these cameras in poor condition it was a pleasure to see this one from Hollywood, California. It had been taken care of and looked brand new - and not used very much. I took a few photos and downloaded them to my Mac and I was pleased that the photos looked so crisp and sharp. I just love all my cameras and if you are careful you can find some good bargains "out there" left behind by those chasing the new just-out cameras.

I still have my canon xti. Even though I have upgraded cameras twice since then, I still find it to be a great camera for walking around. I bought a small pocket sized canon and never did like it. I find that the older camera is much smaller than my 80 D. Still takes great pictures and I am able to shoot in raw. It is limited by a maximum ISO of 1600, but when taking pictures outside is good light that is not a problem.

I get it. Have a T3i my first DSLR. See no reason to upgrade. Still haven't mastered everything the T3i does. It'll probably be retirement before I do, if ever.
