Every once in awhile, when the winds aren't blowing semi trucks over on Highway 395 through Washoe Valley, one might be able to get in a nice day's paddle on Washoe Lake. The scenery is awesome and can lull you into a false sense of tranquility, which was the case on this day! We were nearly 4 miles from our start point when, like flicking a switch on a huge fan, the winds came up and our battle to get back to the truck ensued! I have no photos taken during this time, because I could not stop to take one or even stop paddling to get a drink. Stop paddling and you were moving backward faster than one could paddle forward...

Jet trails and calm blue skies. The high clouds should have been a warning for us!

I enjoy kayaking on the Rocky River and quiet lakes.
Very nice set! Reminds me of our kayak days when we lived on a lake.
Nice photos. I've spent a lot of time in a canoe, never in a kayak. Seems like it would be too restrictive for me. But I can see the advantages especially in stability.
Thanks! It's the second time we have kayaked this lake and it turned into a real experience! Memories were made.
Thanks. Many recreational kayaks have pretty large cockpits; my wife usually has our Sheltie sitting in front of her. This was her first solo paddle! And for this outing it was really a good thing we left him at home. This photo shows my wife, Rebecca and our Sheltie, Scotty kayaking for the very first time. If he isn't smiling I don't know what you call it!
