All of the common mistakes: under expose, over expose, shutter speed too fast too slow, f-stop wrong
film speed not set correctly, film not hooked to take up spool, no film, no memory card, discharged battery with out a spare along, not focused, wrong focus points, shooting picture before the flash charged up.
A little less common I was sitting on the lake shore while changing film in the camera a canoe went by
with a topless woman in the front.
And one day I walked out with just the camera & lens when I wanted to take a picture I found I did not have the T2 adapter for my 28mm T2 mount lens, I attempted to take a picture with the lens held in front of the
camera body. I think that is called free lensing only part of the image was in focus.

Well, you're nothing if not resourceful!

Back in the film days didn't properly engage the leader in the sprocket. In digital failed to check setting a few times and wondered why the camera didn't do what I wanted it to.

I did that more than once.

Once I had an important shoot as Public relations photographer for Georgetown University. Took 3 rolls of 36 exposure film. Upon entering the event, was offered one or four glasses of champagne. Used all 3 rolls at 1/250 sec...the flash synced at 1/125. Had some great 1/2 frame shots!

Wow, that's one you'd like to forget, eh?

Had a photo shoot sched for a few members of Corvette Club in VA Bch. We all showed up, posed the first mbr and car, went to my Vette tomretrieve camera and tripod. Retrieve tripod - guess what - no camera bad. Embarrassed, more than a little!

Here's one that tops them all. I took a day trip, a considerable distance from my house specifically to take some scenic photos. Before leaving home I got everything prepared in my backpack, lenses, tripod, filters, everything. But only to find when I got there, of all things I forgot my camera. How could I be so dumb. I must be getting senile.

I'd go somewhere and hide. I hope they let you live that down.

Hmm. That would really cheese me off.

It's great to see so many humbling themselves in this thread. I've never left my camera en route to a scenic trip but I've often regretted not bringing it with me for those "That would be awesome to photograph" moments that I'm certain we've all observed sans camera.

About 10 years ago I climbed Mt. St. Helens with my moderate P & S camera. No dust cover on it. The photos were great but that was the last photos the camera ever took. I learned when climbing a volcano put a ziplock bag over your camera or the dust will ruin it.

Gotta give you props for your adventurousness. I envy you.

After some serious ribbing, all was well and laughed off.

That feeling when -

You have researched carefully to try something new (using HSS, with speed lights to achieve a low key background) - watched you tube to death, read all the blogs on the subject, feeling confident ... I can do this ...

Set up the whole session, with a model, set shutter to 1/8000 and EVF and rear display on the mirrorless of course both go black as night - ahhhh, there was something in that stuff I researched about overcoming that problem.... but what was it exactly?

Search web history, cannot find reference, search on line manuals of camera and speed lights, cannot find setting needed

In desperation, post request for help on a web site (like this one, but camera specific).

Reply posted in under 2 minutes, just saying "Manual, page 271"; they were kind enough not to use the acronym RTFM.

Resume session, trying to look like I have everything under control ...

Good that you achieved success though. Hope everyone involved enjoyed your work. I'm pretty lame at portraiture.

Did a studio shoot with a super hot model I'd been trying to connect with for several months. After seeing my portfolio, she even agreed to TFP! I checked each frame to ensure they were looking good...they were. But when I was ready to download, I realized that I had done the entire shoot without a card in my camera, so had nothing. Then I had to tell her. She was very impressed although not favorably so.
