Moving Lightroom and Affinity Photo to another computer

Currently I have Lightroom and Affinity Photo in my laptop. These are not under a subscription. I just purchased them outright.
My laptop is getting old and just started beeping nonstop the other night. I think that was a courtesy call, the motherboard is getting tired.
It is time to buy a new computer. I went online to see how to move both of these programs to a new computer.
As anticipated I was met with long drawn out gymnastics on how to do it. I went back to my desktop and just right clicked on the lightroom icon. It gave an option to " send to, copy."

It appears all I have to do is send it to my external hard drive and then send it from there to the new computer. I am not concerned about all my photos they are all backed up in multiple places.

What do you think? It looks that easy, right click and just move it....

Moving LR and probably Affinity is more complex than just copying files from the old computer.

Regarding LR, and probably Affinity, you need to:

1. Assure you have the install files. If you don't / don't remember, go to the Adobe site and download the install file from there. You'll need an Adobe user name and password and the software serial number. If you've done this in the past, they'll be there today. Otherwise, open a support chat with Adobe and get this information and download the install file.

2. Use an external HD that you can share between the old and new computers. Copy the "Lightroom Catalog.LRCAT" file and all your existing image files onto the HD.

3. On the new computer, install the LR software and assure all the point-release maintenance updates are applied. Once the software is running but "empty" of any images, close LR and replace the LRCAT file with the file copied from the old computer. At the same time, copy all your old image files into the same position on the new computer.

4. Reopen LR again on the new computer and everything should be as it was on the old computer relative to LR.

4a. If you created any presets like Develop or Export, you need to find these files from the old computer that are located in your "user profile" folders. Use Edit / Preferences / Presets inside LR to find the presets location on the old computer. Copy those old files to the new computer.

If you have a Mac computer you can use the “Migrate” option. Your requires Wi-Fi to do so. Just check it out online for the instructions from Apple. I to have an older iMac that I needed to migrate all of my programs and data to . This is how I managed to move everything over to my new iMac. I believe you can do the same with a laptop. Good luck. Because I had so much data that I wanted to transfer to my new computer, it took several hours.

OK, thanks for keeping me out of trouble. Somehow I knew it was not going to be that easy...

It can be done, I've done it twice with the stand alone LR. Post replies or send me a PM as you run the process for any questions / problems.
