Yeah those tend to bounce around a bit...

It's a spiny orb weaver, a crablike spider. Pretty cool shot. You run into these walking through the woods on occasion.

Thanks. I have a bunch in my yard & tend to ignore them but a friend had a fit wanting to know what they are & if they bite. She isn't fond of many things with more than 2 legs.

Spiny Orb Weavers are completely harmless to humans & animals, and they catch flies, mosquitoes, moths, grasshoppers, etc.

And if you get too close to them, they will suddenly drop to the ground until they're sure you're not going to hurt them. I was standing on a ladder trying to get a macro shot and the spider disappeared. A minute or two later, it climbed back up into the middle of the web.
