When I go into custom controls. The second button down is for back button focus. Why dose it say
Metering and AF start. Dose this mean it resets my meter. If I take a reading of the sky, then recompose.
Did the reading change when I focus. Say on a bird. I can't fine any detail info on that button.

Metering and AF start is what the camera does when you press the shutter button. Metering simply means that the camera starts to evaluate the scene for how much light there is and tells the meter in the viewfinder what that is. AF start is when it tells the lens to start focus on the subject. You want to turn that off of the shutter button, and on the BB focus button you choose. If you don't turn AF off for the shutter button you will still autofocus when you press the shutter and you don't want it to do that when you set it up for BBF.
