Just so you know that I do take suggestions on my photography. I have adjusted my horizon shot of this picture and now the needle looks like it is leaning. I was concentrating on the needle as the focus of the shot and not the horizon. So is this an optical illusion? on the other hand it could just be my old eyes.

These are good shots. The first one has some minor barrel distortion that isn't symmetrical. The second one has perfectly symmetrical barrel distortion. The lens appears to add curvature to the horizon. Not something you did. However, PS and other programs can help correct for this.

This type of scene can be tricky to get just right, there are two axis to consider, the horizontal line of the sea and the vertical line of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower. The tower is difficult to judge it's true vertical due to the spirals round the outside, so your first photo is tilted slightly and the second one is spot on, it's not your eyesight.

Don't forget that horizons are curved due to the curvature of the earth, this curve is not always that obvious unless the angle of view is very wide, usually above 170 degrees.

Have to agree. Number two is spot on, IMHO.

I believe the background is not the horizon but a hill. All verticals look correct.

The background is a hill you are correct. Thank you for all the good advise. I only have kit lenses but I strive for the best I can. I have seen some 4 k from Panasonic that makes my old 7d look like amateur. But this is a fun hobby for me.

You were right first time. I find this image leaning about 1° to the right. I checked against the cropping grid in CANON dpp III, not the most scientific method but good enough for me.

The second version looks correct to me. Nice photo, by the way.

The second picture seems to be correct to me. Forget about the horizon, look at the needle and the wall on the right. When the buildings are straight, who can say the horizon is leaning?
