I have never been able to connect my Sony A7riii to my private wireless router link. Does it need to be a public link?

Can you “see” the network name? Have you entered the appropriate wireless security type (WEP, WPA, etc) and passcode?

The wps button is on your router. When you press it, it should start blinking. Your camera should then be able to find it & connect to your WiFi system. Since the computer is already on the system it should then “see” the camera.

As was said above, most modern modem/routers have a WPS button. When you push it, it will typically flash blue for 2 minutes each time you push it. During that time, if your camera is turned on and ready to connect (and supports WPS, which your camera apparently does), it will connect automatically. If your modem/access point/router doesn’t have a WPS button, then you will need to enter your WiFi password (that you use for other Wi_Fi devices on your network) into the camera.
