Windows file info

I store photos in Windows' file system. If I double click on a photo it is displayed. Until about three days ago on my Windows 10 laptop if I then right-clicked in that photo I got a menu that included "File info." Selecting File info gave me EXIF data like date the photo was taken, camera used, and exposure settings.
Suddenly that is no longer the case. Selecting File info now causes the menu and photo to simply close.
Can any of you tell me what happened and how I can fix it. By fix it I mean get it to work the way it used to.

I don't even see that option when I right click on a photo. As suggested, right click, properties, details.

Ah. My question was imprecise. What I've been doing is double clicking a thumbnail, which on my system brings up a larger, editable display of the photo in Windows' Photos app, then right clicking to the File Info tab. That no longer works.

Sounds like you got an automatic update for Windows 10 which deleted that preference. I believe that if you right click on the picture one of your options will be Open With. Hover your mouse over that and you'll see the options. Photos should be listed, but if it's not, choose the option "Choose another app" and point Windows to where your Photos app is. You might also have to reset your default apps.

Try doing a restore to a date before your last update.

Perhaps you already have resolved the issue. I have multiple ways to view EXIF data. In Windows Explorer, if I right click a file name or thumbnail I select "Properties", then "Details", I'm able to view EXIF data: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, ... If that is not possible for you, I agree with others, that a file is missing in Windows.
While this is not a solution, but is an incredible alternative and actually offers a multitude of EXIF data for any image your PC or on the internet.
