Does anyone have any experience and suggestions with lenses for iPhone, e.g. Moment, Sandmarc, Olloclip, etc.

I’ve read that they all add some amount of distortion so you need to be aware of their limits. I have a plastic cover on the back of my iPhone XR that I’d have to remove each time to use one so I opted not to get one. My iPhone’s lens is equivalent to a 28mm full frame so I take that into account in my compositions, if and when. Mostly I use it for the odd snapshot and for short videos to put into my Pro Show slide shows. It’s also great for quick geotagging a location when I’m out and about.

I bought my wife a mid-priced macro attachment for her iPhone because she likes to take closeups of her flowers. First problem was that it wouldn't attach with a protective cover on the phone and second, was that it required the phone to be no more than two or three inches away from the subject and had such a narrow depth of field only a small portion of the flower was in focus. The DOF couldn't be increased since there's no way to adjust the aperture to increase the DOF. Another limitation of smart phones as a camera. She gave up using it and we haven't bothered to investigate alternatives.

You can get Pro Camera for $3.99 at the APP store and put the iPhone in Manual Mode, even shoot in RAW. Check it out on YouTube. I find that my iPhone XR focuses down quite close for decent closeups, not into macro range but close enough for me.

I have the Pro Camera app on my iPhone 8 Plus. It's a good app, although I don't use it all that often. It's probably one of the best camera apps for the iPHone, as it allows a degree of manual control.

I took this with my iPhone XR at about 3" in poor light, hand held. The knot in the wood is about 2 1/2" long. I’d say it focuses pretty close.

I'd say so, too.

Looks blurry to me.

Yes it is. That’s why I pointed out that it was low light and hand held. I was simply showing the close focusing capability. Sorry that the photo wasn’t of the highest quality that the camera is capable of.

My wife uses Moment lenses with her iPhone and prefers it over a regular camera. The photos are at least as good as most small sensor bridge cameras.

I use the Moment 58mm (as well as the anamorphic for video) with my XS and I love it!
Their app is also really good if you pay for the pro features.
I don’t always use them but when I do they produce good results. Plus their lenses are heavy and nice glass!
Finally, their customer service is great!
