Vasquez Rocks

Hi, Its been a while since I posted, so I thought I would post some of the images I shot at Vasquez Rocks Natural Park in Los Angeles County.

The park was formed by thrusts from the San Andreas Fault, which runs almost the entire length of California from North to South or vice-versa. (lol)

The rocks were so names for the notorious bandit, Tibercio Vasquez, who in 1874, used the area for a hideout after he robbed. It is also said that Vasquez buried his ill-gotten gains somewhere in the area of the rocks. Treasure hunters are a common sight looking for his stolen gold. (Nothing has been found yet, hmmmm.) Download for better images.

Funny how the earth just pushes those things around like they’re nothing.
I like the people in the second one to give scale the incredible size, nice set.

Perfect examples of dip and strike. Bet many beginning geology students have gone on field trips there.

Yes pesfls it is a geologists delight. But also the elusive treasure hunter too. Just a little ways south of the rocks off of I-14 is placerita canyon. A lot of gold was panned out of that creek. Thanks for looking.

Nice images.

Vasquez Rocks was where a high percentage of B westerns were filmed, back in the day. Several of the original Star Trek episodes were also filmed there.
