Both of these images were taken at the same location in the Everglades during the golden hours of the day. The first in the morning and the second in the evening.

Both used the same camera and lens and a three stop neutral density filter (GND)
The first was taken at ISO 64, F22 @ 1/3 of a second with polarizer attached. There was no wind.
The second was taken at ISO 125, F22 @ 30 seconds, with polarizer attached. There was a light breeze.

The composition was changed because of the breeze which was blowing the grasses in the water. Please note the reeds in the right corner are a bit blurred due to the breeze. I choose this composition because most of the grasses were sheltered by brush (which does not show in the image). I wanted a long exposure to calm the ripples on the water but that meant the grasses blurred. I raised the ISO from the morning shot to 125 to keep the exposure to 30 seconds. At the 1 minute exposure I wanted the grasses moved too much. I timed the start of the exposure to when the wind was not blowing to keep the grass as still as possible. I don't think the blurred grass on the far right in the lower corner is very noticeable. Would you have noticed if I had said nothing? (I'm curious and would really like to know the answer for future reference)

For the record, there was a great deal of difference in the color of the light between sunrise and sunset as shown in these images. The colors of the scene were really very different.

I think the composition and the subtle hues in the second photo make for an outstanding image. The slightly blurred reeds don't bother me in the least. The overall impression that I get from the image leaves me with a certain calmness that is difficult to explain. While the first image is nice, I don't get the same feelings from it as I do with the second image. Very nice work indeed.

Both are excellent to me! I also am not bothered by the tree movement. But, because you mentioned it, I was prompted to zoom-in. You've got a good deal of sensor dust, more noticeable in the evening shot. When you next revisit these images, click-thru the sky of both and clean-up the small dots. For small apertures, consider a sensor cleaning as the f/22 approach will exposes the dust to the greatest extent.

Thanks for commenting. I noticed that there was dust when I was processing these. I have sensor cleaning on my list of things to do this week.

Beautiful work well explained. Thank you. For your record, I would not have noticed the blurred grass at first pass if you had not pointed it out. And for me personally, I like the colors of the sunset shot the best.

I think both are wonderful, especially in download. No the grasses do not bother me at all. I suggest framing both and hanging as a set! Beautiful.

Both of these are really nice, and I enjoyed seeing them. I believe evening is the winner for me.

Both are beautiful and thanks for the technical explanations. Are you familiar with Robert L. Chaplin and the work he does in the Everglades? There are some similar images in his gallery. He gave a great presentation in Naples a few weeks ago. Now I'm really inspired to get out there.
