Windy Birthday At The Lakeshore

My birthday present was an afternoon lighthouse hopping along Lake Michigan's shore from St. Joseph to South Haven. Despite a thoroughly windy day, we had an enjoyable time. Having lived in Oregon, a windy chilly day is to be expected at the beach. Mid-afternoon isn't the ideal time for photos, but I took some anyway of the waves pounding against the pier of the St. Joseph lighthouse. The wind had died down and the temp had lowered to the mid-40's by the time we got to South Haven, so no photos there, but I already have some I took in October, and I hadn't been to St. Jo in a long time.
Used auto settings, not my usual settings, because I was shooting into the west against the sun and I couldn't read the settings on my camera. Lots of pray-and-spray to catch a good wave picture.
Husband's only complaint that the lakeshore waves didn't smell the same as they are at the Oregon coast. We both miss that memory from living in Oregon years ago.

Yes, in fact it was dry on the other side - you could walk most of the way anyway. The South Haven lighthouse has a similar walkway. We've even walked on a snowy pier one February, though I no longer drive on snowy roads so probably won't do that again. The wind yesterday was 25 mph in gusts, not hard to walk in, but I didn't want to take my camera too close to the spray.

It was! Ten years ago we went to South Haven on my birthday with my little Easy Share camera and got priceless photos of my teen grandkids and two dogs, alas, no longer with us, fighting the wind while they walked on the beach and pier. A fitting celebration both times!
When we lived in Oregon a cold windy day was to be expected at the beach in Spring.
