Sony has installked a 1 inch sensor in this camera which takes great photos when the lens is extended to 600mm, but how does this camera handle taking night photos? I heard good and bad results about this camera, but l noticed that Sony gives us the option of Nighttime scenery photography. Does this help is shooting night time shots? I am a newbee to this camera along with a newbee to night time shooting and need all the info l can get for night time shots.

The issue for that and all cameras with small sensors is that at higher ISOs they have "noise". If your subjects are stationary, use a tripod and a long exposure. If they are not, then try it out and see how much noise you get and how you feel about it.

You need to just try it out and see what you get and how you feel about it.

If you shoot raw or raw+jpg then the raw image will give you more flexibility for the underexposed portions of your images.

I have the camera. I'm still learning, but overall I love the camera. Here is Gary Friedman's suggested settings for nighttime photography. I highly recommend purchasing (if not already) Gary Friedman's, "The Friedman Archives Guide to the Sony RX-10 IV"

 Put the camera on a tripod and Turn SteadyShot OFF
 ISO to 100
 Manual exposure mode, set the shutter speed to 30 seconds or less.
 Focus-lock on your subject and switch to manual focus mode.
 If you’re shooting streets lit with mercury vapor lamps, set the white
balance to “Fluorescent”. If your scene is lit with normal light bulbs,
set the white balance to “Incandescent”. If you’re not sure, use Auto
White Balance or shoot RAW and find the right color balance later
on your computer.
 Set the f/stop to something medium, like f/5.6.
 For lowest noise, try enabling Multi-Frame Noise Reduction (in the
ISO menu) at ISO 200 (MFNR is greyed out if you're shooting RAW
or RAW+JPG)
 If you're shooting for longer than 30 seconds, set the shutter speed to
"Bulb" and use either a wired cable release (RM-VPR1) to start and
stop the exposure.
Start with a 30-second exposure, look at the results, and tweak your
exposure from there

Here's a search result. Lots of posts/articles and videos.

These were all done with an RX10M4, hand held, in totally lousy light at night in lower Manhattan.

Did you use the night time scenery mode when you took any of these photos? If you did how does it work for night time photos?

I posted this yesterday, but it didn't get much attention. I just shot in my usual manual mode with the tracking AF on.

Also had auto noise reduction on.

Wow! I gotta rent one of these. The details and lack of noise are excellent. Did you downsample these or are they sooc?

Nothing wrong with those! I've never hear of the Taen Island Ferry...
