Thank you UHHers for all the good advice - here's what I did.
A few days ago I started a topic asking for feedback on my plans to get a smaller travel camera. I was leaning toward the Sony a6400. I had seen the reviews and the camera also felt good in my hands. I loved its small size.
The response to my request for suggestions and first hand experiences was great. In the end, I went ahead with the Sony even though there were several other good cameras suggested. The Sony just felt right for me.
Since Sony does not send a manual and I am a Nikon user, I have relied on a lot of videos to try to get started with the camera. These were suggested in responses to my post and they are really good. I am also using Sony's online guide. It is still challenging and I am leaving on a trip on Thursday. I changed the camera to raw and aperture priority but haven't done much else so far. I'm attaching a few shots from my yard and also a nearby park. My first impression of the camera is great. The quality of the pictures is comparable to what I have been getting with my DSLRs and it is a dream to hold and carry!

Great set, Carol! Watch out, those Sony's will get ahold of you.

You seem to be doing a fine job with that camera. (notice I didn't say "that camera does a fine job for you") lol
You're off to a good start.
Thanks for letting us know about your decision and especially the sample shots !!

Thank you, Mike. Don't say that around my Nikons. They are sensitive!

Thank you, Tom. Since I understand most of the terms, I can manage the menus minimally but there is a lot to learn. I'm anxious for someone to publish a third party manual.

I think it's going to be just the thing for traveling and some local situationswhere a bulky camera is a handicap. All the feedback I received was very helpful.

Excellent set Carol.
Thank you, Jim. Learning a new camera is challenging but exciting and fun as you know.
Nice composition... and, I'm glad you picked the Sony. Camera's good, documentation terrible, and menu... so, so. There are a lot of youtube videos that will help.

Thank you, Dik. So far I'm delighted with the camera and I have videos playing non stop. I do better with a good book/manual but I'll get through it.
Good to see that you are also happy with the Sony, Carol!
A nice set you share with us!
Now the selection of lenses will be another chapter, right?
Joe (R) on UHH is ahead of us with his excellent choice of lenses.
BTW I can use the adapter for my Canon lenses, but definitelly favor the Carl Zeiss 16-70mm zoom for Sony.
It is a very easy to carry combination for mountain climbing.
Happy shooting!
Larry, I'm a David Busch fan too. If you look closely you will see that his book isn't available until October 7. I already have it on pre-order. Books like that seem to work better for me than any other method.
