Sony A7Riii firmware update

I have been unsuccessfully trying to update my firmware from 1.01 to 3 using the updater downloaded from the Sony site. I follow the procedure and my camera screen remains on "Mass Storage USB connection" and just stays there. Nothing happens. I've tried it several times using my iMac (iOS 10.13.6) as well as my MacBook Pro (iOS 14). Any suggestions?

I believe that message means that you don’t have camera tethered yet, and you need to. That’s what happened to me when I tried the update on my A7 iii. Plugged it in, started the process over and it worked fine.

What does the update fix? If it is just to give the ability to read newer camera raw codes, most of us don't need it.

Lots of instructional videos on YouTube. One day I’m going to write notes to myself so I don’t need to “reinvent the wheel” every time I need to install an update,

The A7iii had the eye af for humans. This new update adds it for dogs/cats. I tried it on a dog, works great. They will be coming out with af for other animals...hopefully in time for my trip to Africa this summer! The update also adds a built-in interval timer.

Definitely worth the update!!!

I had the same problem. Click on the “resource” tab which has you sign in to your Sony account, then the process starts.

It isn't a fix for anything: it provides continuous EyeAF (though it may be switched off) and Animal EyeAF. If you own either a Sony A7RIII or A7III you might consider accessing the Sony website and viewing the updates in detail. You can then assess if they are of value to you. From my point of view, the A7III and A9 updates have been of great value to me.

I updated my A7RIII, you get faster and stickier EYE-AF for humans, new EYE-AF for animals and interval shooting.

Thank you all. I've re-downloaded the upgrade and it finally worked.
