Head for my Leki trekking pole

I am thinking about getting a decent head for my Leki trekking pole. It has a standard mounting screw under the wooden knob.

My intention is to use it for stabilization at the open mic I cohost. The lighting is pretty dark and my old hands aren't as steady as they were once. I like the idea that I can use the quick release for handheld shots.

Do any of my co-UUH'ers have experience using a trekking pole as a monopod?

I have not used one but think not being easily height adjustable would be a handicap.
Would be a very nice dual use item, looking forward to other posts on this thread.
(Looked at a photo on a retailer's website and see they actually pull apart to store; however, the top section does telescope a little.)

My Leki is telescoping.

I'm doing just the opposite, and taking a monopod and when traveling using it as a walking stick. I have a Sirui P-236 carbon fiber monopod which collapses to 16" and weights less than a pound. I've used it walking at home and like the combination. We're taking a trip to Iceland in a month and I'll give it a good work out there. Just random sharing.

I too have a ProMaster tripod that I use repeatedly which also has a monopod feature by unscrewing one leg. By adjusting the height I not only use it as a monopod but also a walking stick or even a ball head cane if needed. Food for thought

My recommended head for all monopods because it pans at the top so the monopod can be at an angle to the head - https://www.ebay.com/itm/VH-10-2-Way-Fluid-Video-Tilt-Head-360-Panoramic-Ball-Head-For-Tripod-Monopod/322655168431?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372

Yeah. I added a 1/4'' screw to my poles .yours already has one so i won't go into my modification. I just screwed on a not too expensive ball head. overall it's a bit short, but works just fine.

I use the Hammers HP1 Anti-Shock Hiking Pole with Compass & Thermometer which can be purchased at Amazon.com at approximately USD$15.00. For some reason it is triple the price at Amazon.ca (Canadian site).

This is a light duty walking stick/monopod. I prefer using my Milano M-CF55MP carbon fibre monopod primarily because it has further height capacity and is more rigid compared to my Hammers walking stick/monopod.

Make sure that the head you use is a stout as the pole itself, you don't want to get off-balance while shooting, need that support strength, and break it and your camera off as you also fall to the ground - just my thought on it.

Thanks to all you repliers! I will be using my trekking pole/monopod setup sitting down indoors 99% of the time. But I WILL get a sturdy head for it!!

I've used my hiking stick as a mono pod and my mono pod as a hiking stick, the hiking stick is rather thin hard to grasp, mono pod easier to hold, quicker to adjust in height, and actually better for walking except for the nice top grip on the hiking stick,I'd check out mono pods to use as a hiking/trekking pole better choice IMHO, Bob.

I use mine often. I also bought a Columbia brand pole, much cheaper, but adequate. I carry both with me on trips. It is helpful, won't replace a tripod, but is helpful.

I've used a monopod with a decent ball head a lot. Having just one knob on the ball head to deal with on a monopod is a very fast adjustable system. My monopod is much faster to adjust height than my hiking poles. I use hiking poles a lot for hiking and I'm way to abusive on them to use my nice monopod for that. Which is different than a nice stroll down a dirt path I'd use a monopod for that, but not for climbing 14rs in Colorado.
