We've been chasing the wildflower blooms throughout SoCal this year. Several of us posted images of the magnificent golden poppy blooms at Lake Elsinore. We just got back from Carrizo Plains National Monument and the flowers are blooming en masse there. No poppies, but miles and miles of yellow, green, orange and purple flowers out on the valley floor near Soda Lake and along the Temblor Mountain range. Most of the flowers are on the valley floor but the hillsides are coming alive also. If I had to guess, I'd say the peak time to see the flowers is between now and the next two weeks. It's just beautiful out there right now.
Our biggest treat was the purple Phacelia fields were in full bloom near the south end of the park. As you walk thru the field, the fragrance from these flowers was breathtaking. It had the sweetest smell to go along with the peace and quite of the purple flowers swaying in the light breeze. A treat to the eyes, nose and ears.
Here's a few images of the flower bloom on Saturday. Even on a weekend, there weren't very many people there.
