We had the memorial for Greg last Sat. March 30th. We took his ashes out to Sweet Water on the Loop Rd. [for those of you have been there]. We gathered on the bridge [his favorite spot] A friend of his played the flute. Another lady sang a song she wrote for Greg and his believed everglades. The family spoke and several others. The most interesting thing happened. Just as the lady started playing a Snowy Egret [Gregs favorite] flew in behind us and landed in a tree. It stayed till the service was over, then just flu away.

Thanks, Jimmy, and think Gregory would have been very pleased with the sendoff but things just not the same on the hogg without him! I talked with him on the phone about five years ago when we stopped in Everglades City after leaving the Everglades and invited him to lunch but he had someone out with him and we were on a tight schedule and couldn't stay over and later talked about getting together a number of times but never quite made it. I did purchase three of his small images printed on canvas which included the last image of the spoonbill that he posted before going in the hospital and had sent him a PM with three swamp birds wishing him a speedy recovery and a few hours later learned of his death. The night before I talked with Gregory at Everglades City we camped at the Big Cypress campgrounds and the people camping beside us had just come in from driving through Loop Road and that was when I realized that it was close to the campgrounds and like I recently mentioned to floridareel hoped to return and drive it before too long! I don't know if you happen to see the recent posting on the hogg by Fuzzycoach of the beautiful early morning images along Loop Road but they were very nice! Thanks again and take care, Corky!

Thank you, Jim. I'll always remember you being the wheelman for you, me and Greg back in January when we visited some of his special places. I must admit that I didn't know whether Gregory was a history expert with a great knowledge of birds or a bird expert with great historical knowledge. Kathy and I went back to Greg's other special place, the Havana Cafe the following day!
